Harry Parr was born in Snailwell (Newmarket Q3-1881 3B:511), baptised Snailwell on 12th March 1882, son of John and Amelia PARR (née HARVEY).
1891 census...Aged 9, he was in Snailwell with his father John PARR [45] farm labourer, born Newmarket; his mother Amelia [38]; brothers John [7] and Newman [4] and sister Martha [2]. All except his father were born in Snailwell. 1901 census...Aged 19, a farm labourer, he was at Carter Street, Fordham with his widower father; brothers John and Newman (both farm labourers) and sister Martha. Also brother Thomas [9] and sister Florrie [5] and sister Mary RICHARDSON [24] born Chatham, Kent and her husband John W Richardson [23] born Fordham. His mother had died in 1898. On 20th February 1904, in Carlton, he married Maria STUBBINGS [29-3-1884]. 1911 census...Aged 29, he was at Carter Street, Fordham with his wife Maria [28] born Carlton; sons Walter George [6-4-1904] born Carlton, Alfred John [12-10-1905] born Fordham and Percy Edward [4-4-1909] both born in Fordham. Another son, Henry Charles, had died. There was a further son, Sidney James [1-10-1922] His widow was later at Collin's Hill, Fordham, and then Carter Street. His father died in 1902. |

He enlisted in Newmarket.
The 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment were badly affected by malaria in the Struma valley in July 1916 and this was the cause of Harry's death. His entry in CWGC has him in the 15th battalion, but this is a typo since their original cards give 1st Battalion and in any case the 15th were in Egypt.
